Juventud Descerebrada

I can affirm without any doubts that Cintas Pepe is the best label around in these days. Not only almost its entire stable rules musically, they also put a lot of efforts in the packaging to make the whole record looking awesome. Of course they're not the only label doing it, but they're probably one of the few labels doing it in a true DIY way. While I often got the feeling that every contemporary release just looks like a mere & cold industrial product, Cintas Pepe releases are different. They do not look modern. They look like they came out in the 90s'. There might be imperfections and for sure a questionable color-matching. But those screenprinted and hand glued covers show all the energy and respect for the DIY ethic that I remember from my formative years.
Nostalgia aside, as I've already said before, not only this looks cool, but it also delivers musically.  Sacrificio hails from Mexico City and their debut ep "juvendud descerebrada" does not sound too different from all the other modern mexican bands. I've heard people calling them a fastcore band but that's totally wrong. They might be a bit faster than Tercer Mundo or Muerte, but in the end Sacrificio it's just another pure & simple political punk/hc band in the classic central/south american way. It seems like they're getting a shitty response since people were expecting another Tercer Mundo. That's just bullshit, get this record. For sure already a contender for the best eps of the year.

In Controluce

The first great score of the year has been a copy of Wretched's last effort before they disbanded, their 1988 "in controluce" ep. As I've said before, I've always got a love/hate relationship with this band. Never been too much of a fan of their earlier material so I gave their later stuff a chance only a few years ago. "La tua morte non aspetta" 12" is now my favourite Wretched release, the one I kept listening to. The songwriting is darker and lyrics are more mature & introspective if compared to the earlier stuff. "In controluce", released two years later, follows more or less the same line: a very gloomy and downtuned production makes it comparable to Amebix for the atmosphere they create. For sure a glorious way to say goodbye to this cruel world. Got this copy for a decent price. While vinyl is immaculate, cover shows ringwear like almost every other copies I've seen. Considering that it was printed on thin cheap paper and there was no dust sleeve, good luck finding one in better conditions!

Rupture interview 2002

It's time for another Rupture interview! This one is pretty interesting since it has been conducted with Stubles & Zombo after Gus departure and it's focused mainly around this subject. Don't own the original 'zine, just found it on some forum (hence the weird scans). Taken from Hotrod Mafia#1 from 2002 and done by that swedish guy that was responsible for Ulcerrhoea & Netjajev Society System.

Banchetto Di Lusso

One of my record goals for 2015 is to finally score an original copy of Nerorgasmo "s/t" 7" from 1985. In the meantime, FOAD just released an official repress of this masterpiece with minimal variations in the artwork. For sure a great way to secure a copy without having to shell out outrageous amount of money. As you can see, I'm such a sucker for this band that I had to get both colour versions (100 on purple, 400 on black). That's something that I normally avoid but you gotta make exceptions for something you love. I'll keep it short since I've already written  enough about them here. Now someone has to do the same with the Declino ep!

Out To Get Me

Cleveland scene is my favourite from the US. Over the years I've been able to collect all the records from there except for a couple ones that keep eluding me. One is the record that started it all back in the early 90s: Cider debut ep "out to get me", originally released in 300 copies only by Non Commercial Records in 1994. For the 20th anniversary of this record's release, other 300 copies have been pressed out of the original stampers. Normally I would have skipped a repress and patiently waited for scoring an original. But this official repress has been so well done that I couldn't resist. Not only it includes a perfect reproduction of the original sleeve, but also the uber rare "jerry lewis" & "jew boy 3" variants are included in each copy. I've been dreaming of owning a "jew boy 3" for years so I knew that I would have totally regretted not buying one of these. If that's not enough, they thrown in an extra insert with liner notes and a nice interview with Paul Wog. If you're not familiar with these guys, you just need to know that this is the best and probably the most important record that came out of the US in the 90s when it comes to meat & potato hardcore (ok, it's a tie with Crudos eps). And keep in mind that all these guys are still doing the same damn thing with the same quality and the same sarcastic & provocative attitude 20 years later in different bands. Can you name another city with such an authentic scene that keep doing its own thing for two bloody decades in the right way, not giving a fuck about the trend of the year? Neither do I. Well, here's your opportunity for getting for cheap a copy of the record that started this scene. Cidercore never die!

2014 End Of The Year List

While in the last two years I've skipped this tradition, this time I feel in the "write top tens" mood, so here's my 2014 end of the year list. I still need to get physical copies of a few of these records, so get in touch if you can help (expecially with the Oily Boys ep). Casual order of course but Tercer Mundo lp & Oily Boys are definitely my favourite releases of 2014. I'm very surprised that there's no japanese bands in this list (if we exclude Forward split). I might have lost interest in the nipponic current scene but I haven't heard that much good stuff from there this year. Have I missed something? 2014 has been an amazing year expecially for finally being able to score some rare stuff that was on my wantlist for way too long. Hope this trend will continue next year!
